  • Project Type: Public Playground

Discovery Park Playground, situated within interlacing woodland trails and old growing coniferous forest, suggests wonderful opportunities for a much needed natural playground for the Great Seattle Area. Harrison Design works with Seattle Parks and Recreation to renovate an old playground which has been a safety concern to a natural inspired playscape for children of all ages. The new playground features a tower and a net climbing structure suggesting the theme of forest ranger and bird nests which was chosen by the children at a public meeting. Existing zip line and swings are kept to serve its current popular demand. Logs, boulders and grass mounds will be added around the perimeter to provide additional non conventional natural play value. Inspired by the branch-and-stick teepee structures created by the children at the near by day care center, the new playground will also include a small designated natural play area featuring Robonia weaving posts where kids are encouraged to be creative.
